Terms and Conditions
Please review terms and conditions of entry prior to registering for an event.
Before you race…
We want all our events to feel welcoming, inclusive and well organised from start to finish. To help make that happen — and to keep everyone safe — there are a few important terms that apply when you enter.
They’re nothing unusual, just the practical bits that sit behind any well-run event.
The important stuff
Steaming Down The Valley is a multi-sport event including 5km and 10km trail runs and paddlesports races, taking place out of Severn Valley Country Park, Alveley, Shropshire. Severn Valley Trail Run is a 10km trail run taking place in the Severn Valley Country Park, Alveley. The events are organised by Severn Valley Challenge Events Limited, registered in England and Wales (company number 17009858).
By entering the event, participants confirm that:
• They are medically fit and able to take part
• They understand the physical demands of trail running and/or paddlesports (where applicable)
• They will follow all instructions given by event organisers, marshals, and safety personnel
Participants to all events must be at least 18 years of age (unless otherwise stated at point of entry).
We’re putting these events on because we love the Severn Valley and the idea of bringing something a bit different to the area. All we ask in return is that you:
• Respect the course and the environment
• Respect our marshals and event team
• Look out for each other
• Follow guidance on the day
The course uses public rights of way. Participants must remain aware of and respectful towards other path users and the landowner at all times.
Entries are generally non-refundable unless in exceptional circumstances at the organiser’s discretion. Transfers may be permitted at the organiser’s discretion. In the event of cancellation by the organiser, refunds or deferrals will be considered but are not guaranteed.
The organiser reserves the right to:
• Alter the route, distance, or format of an event
• Adjust start times or wave structure
• Modify or withdraw any element of the event where necessary
• This includes elements involving third parties such as steam train services.
Participants acknowledge that:
• Trail running involves uneven terrain, natural obstacles, and variable conditions
• Paddlesports involve inherent risks associated with open water
• All participants take part at their own risk.
By entering paddlesports races, participants confirm:
• That they are competent to paddle the distance between the Miner’s Bridge at Severn Valley Country Park and the footbridge at Arley on a river and can safely control a craft in moving water of Grade 1 conditions.
• They are able to self rescue their craft and can swim 50m.
• Any kayak, canoe, SUP, or craft brought to use in the race has sufficient buoyancy and will remain afloat if capsized and SUPs will have a waist leash.
• This race is gun-timed and wave starts are based on estimated ability and finish time as provided by the participant at point of entry.
By entering trail run races, participants confirm:
• By completing the entry they declare that they, or anyone that they are paying for, will not compete in the race unless medically fit to do so and that, in any event, they will compete at their own risk. They accept that the organisers will not be liable for any loss, damage, injury, death, action, claim, costs or expenses which may arise in consequence of their participation of the event. They understand that entry fees are non-refundable. They understand that for safety reasons that this entry should not be given to anyone other than the person identified in the entry.
The organiser reserves the right to withdraw any participant deemed unfit to continue for safety reasons. Participants should notify organisers of any relevant medical conditions where appropriate.
The event is covered by public liability insurance. Participants are responsible for their own personal accident and equipment insurance where required.
Photography and video may be taken during the event and used for promotional purposes. By entering, participants consent to this use.
Participant data will be used for event administration, timing, and results. Data will not be shared with third parties except where necessary for event delivery.
Elements of the event may involve third-party providers (including transport and paddlesports services). The organiser is not responsible for the operation or delivery of these services.
The organiser is not liable for cancellation or disruption due to circumstances beyond reasonable control, including but not limited to severe weather, flooding, or safety concerns.
